Other scoring contributions included DQ Wiggins 6, Armonte Tolbert 4, GK Wells-Lindsey 4, and James Robinson 3.

Meet Recap

These boys are continuing to improve. I am very happy with their latest progress. They are starting to play as a team, and it is showing as we were able to defeat Paw Paw. Our strike percentage was down due to lane conditions that baffled us at first. Like so many times in bowling, the spares made the difference. We were making the spares that we have been missing. Trevor Morgan (Captain) led the team with a series of 424. Bailey Brandt also contributed, having the highest spare percentage.

Meet Recap

This was an exhibition match to allow the teams from other divisions to play each other. Since there were no points to win or lose, I pulled all the starters and gave my alternates a chance to play and “impress” the coach and get more playing time. For a couple of boys it worked. Steve London has shown definite improvement and will start in part of the match next week. Peyton Spinney is also standing out, and will share the 5th spot with Steve next week. Let’s see how these boys do. All the boys are showing great improvement. It is getting harder and harder to determine who to play.

Knights News · Hockey wins again 4-0 over Kalamazoo Blades

Kalamazoo United defeats Kalamazoo Blades 4 to 0
Hoping to capitalize on their first league win of the season against Portage Northern on January 9, the United came into this game hoping to improve their 5-5 record. Andrew Julian of the Blades had 2 early goals which were promptly waved off. There were plenty of scoring opportunities for both teams throughout the first period, but Blades goalie Max Angelin and United goalie Mitch Kihm held their teams to a scoreless first period.

The United’s first goal was scored by Quentin Cerutti with an assist by Nathan Carr. Just over the blue line, Cerutti’s wrist shot went top shelf past Angelin. The United’s 2nd goal was a 5 on 3 power play goal from Brendan Warner. Both teams played hard and physical during the 2nd period with several penalties.

The United started the 3rd period on a 5 on 3 power play. The Eagles killed off one of the penalties, when James Amat assisted Noel Cavey for the 3rd United goal. The United had a strong penalty kill against a 5 on 3 power play from the Blades. The Blades pulled their goalie, and James Amat scored the empty net, short handed goal to give the United a 4 to 0 win. United goalie Mitch Kihm survived 25 shots on goal, and earned his first shut out of the season. The United are in action against DeWitt tonight.

Meet Recap

What a start to the season. We start out with only 4 girls. Then we get our 5th. Almost every girl is brand new. Then we get tested by 2 of the better teams in the league. Our girls are learning a lot though, and having some fun. All we need to bring it all together is our first win. Hopefully this week against Portage Northern. I am really proud of my girls, and I am expecting some good things out of them.
