Meet Recap

On a cold ,wet , windy day , the Loy Norrix Women’s and Men’s Cross Country teams traveled across town to Portage West Middle School to compete in the Regional Championship. Unfortunately neither team finished in the top three, and our season ends . But the Knights will be represented at next weeks State Final , as super sophomore Joe Meyers picked off a second place finish earning a berth to MIS and a chance to compete at the State level for the first time. Following Joe across the finish line were William Carrier (70), Dustin Keltsch (81), Owen Edlefson (90), Oliver Rubin (92), Myles Baker (94), and Rowan Mathieson (104). The Knights ran very well posting eight season bests or out right personal bests. Way to go Knights. Let’s go Joe !!!

On the Women’s side, super freshman Joe Hart gave it a hard fought effort but just fell short of a State Meet trip, her twentieth place finish was five short as the top fifteen runners advance as well as the top three teams. Joy was followed across the finish line by , Alexa Davis 56), Sara Elfring (58), Nuru Lewis (92), Ashley Keltsch (93), Julia Pinkster (94), and Abigail Dantes (103). This ends the 2017 season for the Lady Knights, the girls ran very well today as they posted, eight season bests or out right personal bests. Great Season Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Teams!! Let’s work with Joe this week and get him ready for the State Meet. GO KNIGHTS!!!

Boys Junior Varsity Tennis, Boys Varsity Tennis · Sophomore Reed Crocker goes 1-1 at MHSAA State Final

Last year, Reed Crocker was the state runner up falling in an epic three hour battle 7-6 (6), 3-6, 7-6 (8) to his opponent from Midland Dow.

This year Crocker made it through the regular season with a 28-1 record and pushed that to 31-1 by winning the MHSAA Regional. Loy Norrix (due to increasing enrollment) is now a Division 1 Tennis school. Reed headed to the State Finals last weekend in Midland. The talent pool was so heavy that he was not even seeded.

There were multiple nationally ranked players in the #1 Singles draw and not being seeded means your road to the late rounds becomes that much more difficult.

In the first round, Reed handled his opponent from Canton 6-1, 6-2. In the round of 16 he faced the #2 seed from Bloomfield Hills. They are familiar with one another and have played doubles together in national tournaments. His opponent got the better of Reed last Friday with a 6-2, 6-0 win. The player from Troy HS defeated the player from Bloomfield Hills 6-1, 6-1 in the championship match.

Crocker ends his Sophomore season with a 32-2 record adding to a 30-2 Freshman record makes him 62-4 on his career. The Knights finished 21st in the team standings.

The Men’s Cross Country team was 7th overall. The team finished ahead of Niles, Stevensville Lakeshore, and Mattawan.

On the Women’s side, Freshman Joy Hart was the top finisher for the Knights. She ran a 20:45 finishing 19th overall. The Women’s Team finished 8th overall finishing ahead of Kalamazoo Central and Mattawan. Portage Northern was the team champion.
