Sophomore Reed Crocker wins SMAC Tennis Title; team finishes 8th

Sophomore Reed Crocker won the #1 Singles SMAC Conference title on Saturday by pulling out wins over strong competition.

After receiving a first round bye, Reed defeated Kalamazoo Central 6-1, 6-1 in the Quarterfinals. In the semi-finals, he battled his opponent from St. Joe before winning 3-6, 6-4, 9-7. In the final he faced an opponent from Portage Central and was able to avenge his only loss of the season winning the final 6-1, 7-6 (2) to win the title. Reed improved his season record to 28-1 and career record to 58-3.

Sophomore Joe Meyers was the #3 seed in the 2nd Singles Bracket. After a first round bye, he defeated his opponent from Gull Lake 6-1, 6-0 in the quarterfinals before falling to St. Joe in the semi-finals. Joe is now 23-5 on the season and has a 44-10 career record.

Senior Adam Dorstewitz pulled out a win in the first round over Niles 6-1, 6-0 before falling to St. Joe in the quarterfinals.

The Knights finished 8th overall ahead of Kalamazoo Central, Niles, and Battle Creek Central. Portage Central won the tournament.

The Tennis Team will compete in the MHSAA Regional on Thursday at Holland High School and Holland Christian High School beginning at 9:00 A.M. The top 2 teams, ties for second, and any team scoring 18 points will qualify for the State Finals. In addition, the champion and runner up in the #1 Singles bracket also advance if not part of a qualifying team.

The MHSAA Division 1 Tennis Finals will be October 20-21 at the Midland Tennis Center.
